School Age Youth are the Elementary School gang; Kindergarten through 5th grade. Faith offers a variety of opportunities to learn, serve, praise and just have fun with other children and adults in a Christ centered environment.
Sunday School- (9:30 a.m. Sunday mornings…) During the school year, Preschool and School Age (age 3-5th grade) students VBS style Sunday school curriculum that begins with a large group worship with music, a skit, and games. Children meet their teachers in their age specific classrooms and go together as a class to their opening worship time. After worship the students meet in small groups with their teachers to dive deeper into the lesson! This year (2015-2016) we are using Group Publishing’s Living Inside Out Sunday School curriculum.
During the summer a multi-age Sunday School is offered after the Children’s Sermon at 9:30 a.m. worship.
Confirmation at Faith Lutheran is a two year program during 7th and 8th grade. Confirmation meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00 during the school year.
First Communion- Fifth graders prepare for their first Communion during Sunday School and prepare to partake fully in worship and the sacrament during Lent. They participate in First Communion classes with their parents, create their own chalices and celebrate the Passover with a Seder meal before they first participate in Holy Communion.
Mothers in Fellowship- This support group for mom’s can meet the needs of parents of School Agers as well as the preschool aged crowd… The parenting issues tend to come back around as children grow older! While the School Age crowd doesn’t typically need the child care offered during Mothers in Fellowship (MIF), occasionally, they might be on a school break and attend with younger siblings. MIF is for moms, but it benefits children of all ages.
Music Programs- 2nd graders through Junior High/Middle School may join Heavenly Sounds Choir and God’s Chimes. These programs are offered after school or during the early evening.
Heavenly Sounds Choir sings frequently for worship services and joins the Adult Choir for special anthems periodically. This group is the core of the Children’s Christmas Musical. Youth from 2nd grade through Jr. High/Middle School are welcome to join Heavenly Sounds Choir. Contact Becky Filkins for information about Junior Choir.
God’s Chimes is our beginning chimes group, directed by Robyn Runyan. Children from 2nd grade through 4th grades may join God”s Chimes. Children learn to read notes, follow rhythms and participate with others to make music together. When they are able, they offer their musical gifts during worship to the delight of the congregation. A “beginners” class is offered in the summer. Contact Robyn Runyan for information about God’s Chimes for your children.
Opportunities for 5th graders through 8th graders, in addition to Heavenly Sounds Choir…
Middle School/Junior High Youth may join Heavenly Sounds Choir and/or Mighty Ringers Handbell Choir.
Mighty Ringers is our Handbell Choir for 5th through 8th graders who would like to ring handbells. A beginning handbell class is offered in the summer for this age group. Contact Robyn Runyan for more information.
Youth Winds Plus is for 5th graders to adults who enjoy playing a woodwind or brass instrument. Please contact Robyn Runyan for further information.
Serving- There are many places where small hands can be God’s helpers. Consider where your school aged child/children can serve with their own age group or with you! They can replace pencils for the Pew Crew, fill Quiet Packs or help parents as they usher or host (they enjoy handing out those bulletins!) They can assist with Altar Guild, attend family mission trips, enjoy our Be Like Jesus servant event or participate with Faith Builders or Property Work Day. School agers can help set up meals or Coffee Hour with the Fellowship Board, help tie quilts for Lutheran World Relief or water plants for the Horticulture Team.
Vacation Bible School- VBS at Faith Lutheran is usually offered in July in an evening format. For the past several years, the grand finale of VBS is a food packing event for Kids Feeding Nicaragua (formerly Kids Against Hunger) where our children and their adult helpers package 10,000 nutritious meals for hungry children in Nicaragua and around the world. All ages from 4 and up are welcome to praise, pray and play at Vacation Bible School!

Youth and Family Events are continually growing and evolving as Faith grows. School age kids can participate in fun group events such as “Be Like Jesus,”a multi- church weekend servant event held each spring. We enjoy all kinds of activities such as making Prayer Boxes for the Family, making an Advent Log, arts and crafts, games, bonfires complete with s’mores and hot dogs, lock-in’s, having a birthday party for Jesus, and much more. For upcoming events, check out the church calendar here.
